How Trying to Become an Acrobat Changed My Approach to Fitness, Creativity, and Confidence

A childhood Cirque du Soleil experience sparked a dream that eventually led me into cheerleading, dance, tumbling, and acrobatics. What started as curiosity turned into a lesson in confidence, creativity, and trusting a vision that felt out of reach.

As a kid, I saw Cirque du Soleil for the first time and became obsessed with the mix of strength, elegance, and athleticism. That moment planted the idea that, in a dream world, l'd be an acrobat.

That dream didn't happen all at once. It showed up through high school cheerleading, college dance classes, tumbling gyms, and performance opportunities in my community. Each step built on the last one and taught me something new about movement, discipline, and trust.

One of the biggest turning points was choreographing my own acro piece for a dance concert. I had to think beyond tricks and build a full performance - story, lighting, costumes, and flow. That experience taught me how powerful it is to create something from scratch instead of waiting for the perfect opportunity.

It also changed how I train. Acrobatics pushed me to focus more on core strength, mobility, body control, Pilates-style work. Those lessons still influence how I coach today, especially when I help clients chase goals they once thought were unrealistic.

The biggest lesson was simple: when you chase something that feels slightly out of reach, you learn a lot about yourself in the process.
