What It Really Takes to Build a Fitness Business and Stay in the Game | ft. Allen Wasinger
What does it take to build a successful fitness career, coach people effectively, and stay competitive as you get older?
In my conversation with Allen Walsinger of Compelled Fitness and Nutrition, we explored those questions and much more - from building a CrossFit gym in Wichita to developing a coaching philosophy centered on empathy, consistency, and community.
We take a deep dive into how training helped him manage depression and anxiety, clear his mind, and feel more prepared to handle everyday challenges. The mental benefits of fitness are often overlooked.
Exercise is not only about building muscle or improving performance. It can also help people build confidence, create structure, and feel more connected to themselves and others.
We also discuss staying competitive as we age. As Allen has gotten older, his approach to training has changed. Earlier in his career, he believed that more workouts and higher intensity were always better. Now he focuses more on recovery, sustainability, and knowing when to adjust the intensity. He still wants the ability to perform at a high level, but he no longer feels the need to push his body recklessly every day.
Allen's story is a reminder that fitness should be personal, adaptable, and rooted in community.
You do not need to be an elite athlete to get started. You do not need the perfect program. You just need to find a way to move, stay consistent, and surround yourself with people who help you keep going.
As Allen says: "Just move."
